Prescribe but don’t advertise immunity boosters: SC to Ayush docs

New Delhi, Dec 15 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Tuesday asserted that qualified Ayush doctors and homeopaths can prescribe government-approved tablets or mixtures as immunity boosters for treatment of Covid-19, however the Apex Court held that they cannot advertise anything as a cure for the pandemic.

Apex Court bench comprising Justices Ashok Bhushan, Subhash Reddy and MR Shah was hearing an appeal preferred by the Dr AKB Sadbhavana Mission School of Homeo Pharmacy against an order passed by the Kerala High Court on August 21 prohibiting AYUSH doctors from advertising or prescribing medicines as cure for COVID-19, except those specifically mentioned in the Centre`s advisory on March 6, 2020.

The High Court had ordered that alternative medicine be used to enhance immunity to resist the disease.

The Ministry of AYUSH had submitted that it decided to augment and strengthen the Covid medical response of the country by using the traditional Healthcare system of the country, which included Ayurvedic practices, Homoeopathy practices as well as Unani practices only as immunity booster and preventive measure for COVID-19, and not as treatment.
