Sixty pc of total COVID-19 recoveries concentrated in five states

New Delhi, Sep 12 (UNI) Even as new COVID-19 cases neared one lakh-mark, India also recorded the highest ever single-day recoveries of 81,533 cases in past 24 hours. A whopping 97,570 new confirmed cases have been added in the past 24 hours in the country. However, the silver lining was rise in recovery rates with 60 per cent of the total recovered cases being reported from five states — Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh.

Maharashtra has alone contributed more than 14,000 and Karnataka over 12,000 to the new single-day recoveries, an official release here said. With this, the total number of recoveries has crossed 36 lakh — 3,624,196 — taking the recovery rate to 77.77 per cent.

Of the new cases registered, Maharashtra accounted for more than 24,000, followed by Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka both contributing more than 9,000. Of the five states reporting the highest number of cases, they also had maximum new recoveries in the past 24 hours.

In the past 24 hours, 1,201 deaths have been registered. As many as 36 per cent of fatalities reported are from Maharashtra with 442 deaths followed by Karnataka with 130 deaths.

Of the total deaths, 69 per cent fatalities are concentrated in five states/UT of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Delhi.
