Under the able guidance of Dr. B. N. Tripathi, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu, Faculty of Dairy Technology, SKUAST-Jammu, R.S. Pura organized an event on World Food Day 2024. This programme was aimed at sparking awareness among audience about this year’s theme ‘Right to Food for a Better Life and Better Future’. Role of agriculture and allied sectors in providing food and nutritional security to the country was highlighted. Contributions of Green, White and Blue revolutions in particular in making the country self-sufficient in food production was brought up. Challenges faced by the country in terms of irrational use of pesticides, fertilizers, land degradation, soil health, depletion of natural resources and climatic challenges were discussed. The role of milk and milk products in addressing malnutrition, livelihood and employment was highlighted. The common issues of decreased productivity of dairy animals, feed and fodder shortage, increased infertility and number of dry animals were also brought into limelight. The importance of feed conversion ration akin to poultry industry was also highlighted to enhance profit to the farmers. Importance of procurement, processing, marketing and value-addition was also discussed. Measures to mitigate all these challenges were also emphasised upon. Dr. J S Soodan, Dean, Faculty of Dairy Technology, was the chief guest and Dr. Sunil Kumar, Professor and Head, Division of Dairy Technology was the Guest of Honour. The occasion was graced by all the faculty members and the students. Students of the faculty did a commendable job in highlighting above said issues through poster making, skit and poems.
