BJP old warhorse Samik locked in a grim battle with Trinamool’s Aditi, latest sensation in Kirtan gharana

Rajarhat Gopalpur assembly constituency this time will witness tough electoral battle as Trinamool Congress (TMC) nominee Aditi Munshi, who is an established Kirtan singer and has a big fan following particularly among women across the state, is pitted against BJP candidate Samik Bhattacharya and CPI(M) candidate Subhajit Dasgupta.

Ms Munshi expressed her gratitude to party supremo Mamata Banerjee for making her a candidate and said she would work for the people.

She said only TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee thinks or works so much for people in the performing arts and allied fields.

Ms Munshi said that she will be at the party’s service in whichever way it deems fit.

In 2016, Purnendu Basu Trinamool Congress won the seat by defeating Nepaldeb Bhattacharjee from Communist Party Of India (marxist) with a margin of 6874 votes.

In 2011, Purnendu Basu won the seat first time by defeating Rabindranath Mondal from Communist Party Of India (marxist) with a margin of 35,725 votes.

Rajarhat gopalpur Assembly constituency is falling under Dum Dum Lok sabha constituency.

In 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Trinamool Congress candidate Sougata Ray won from Dum Dum Lok Sabha (MP) Seat with the margin of 53002 votes by defeating Samik Bhattacharya from Bharatiya Janata Party.

Ms Munshi got that all the time when she debuted on the Bengali Zee Sa Re Ga Ma Pa talent show in 2015.

She said, “My father-in-law Tarun Chakraborty who died some time ago was a Trinamool Congress leader and my husband Debraj Chakraborty is an active party leader. I have seen them working. I am grateful that Didi felt I am worthy. I don’t think anyone else thinks about musicians like she does. It is our moral duty to support her during the elections.”

“What I can tell you is that Didi has done a marvellous job of upholding Bengali culture. She has given importance to art and artistes, it would not be possible without her because she only she, understands and embraces, the true meaning of Bangaliaana,” the noted kirtan singer said.

“I was born and brought up in this place (her constituency); I know every bylane, these are my people and I am their daughter,” Ms Munshi said.

“I will work with honesty and diligence, shototar shote, and I can tell you without hesitation that I am confident I will be able to assume the responsibilities of my new role,” she added.

On the other hand BJP candidate Samik Bhattacharya is a spokesperson of BJP’s West Bengal state unit and a very well known face in Bengali media.

Bhattacharya was a member of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly from the Basirhat Dakshin constituency in North 24 Parganas district.

He said the people of West Bengal rejects TMC’s appeasement politics, violence and tyranny. Bengal wants a safer and prosperous future.

Earlier, West Bengal stood against Communists but today under TMC’s regime Bengal suffers due to cut-money culture, corruption, syndicate, violence, etc. Now, West Bengal wants peace, prosperity and progress, it wants BJP, Mr Bhattacharya added.
