Cong, like-minded parties to boycott Par on suspension of MP, farm Bills issue

New Delhi, Sep 22(UNI) The Congress and other like-minded parties will boycott the rest of the Monsoon session to protest against suspension of eight Opposition MPs from the Rajya Sabha and farm bills issues.

In a statement issued here, Congress chief whip Jairam Ramesh said that the Congress and other like-minded parties have decided to boycott the rest of the Monsoon session to protest against ‘the manner in which Bills have been bulldozed by the government; the manner in which eight MPs were suspended without being given a hearing and without division on suspension motion as per the rules; the manner in which Leader of Opposition has not been allowed to speak and the manner in which the Government has simply failed to accommodate views of the Opposition’.

The Congress MP said that the Congress and other Opposition MPs were also protesting the manner in which crucial Bills have not been referred to Standing or Select Committees, the manner in which division vote was not allowed on the 2 agricultural marketing Bills and the manner in which MSP was not made part of the agricultural marketing law and not made applicable to private trade.

On Sunday, members of the Congress and other Opposition parties had raised an uproar in the Rajya Sabha on the passage of the Bill without taking all stakeholders’ views into consideration.

During the Rajya Sabha proceedings, several opposition party MPs had enterdd the well of the House in protest against the farm bills.

On Monday, the Chairman suspended eight Opposition MPs for their behaviour during the passage of the Bills.

Opposition party members have demanded that the suspension of the MPs be revoked.

Earlier on Tuesday, Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad had said that his party will boycott proceedings of the House till suspension of the opposition MPs is revoked.
