Chennai, Mar 16 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC)
on Tuesday released its manifesto for the April six Assembly elections,
promising to introduce total prohibition, restoration of powers to the
local bodies, five year tax exemption for new entrepreneurs, besides
50 per cent subsidy to bank loans availed by small and marginal sections affected by demonetisation, GST and corona pandemic.
The Congress is facing the polls as part of the Opposition DMK-led
Secular Progressive Alliance. Releasing the manifesto, TNCC President K S Alagiri said new schemes would be launched to create jobs for skilled youths.
He also said as per the dream of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi steps would be taken to restore the powers back to the local bodies.
Mr Alagiri also promised that every year 500 boys and 500 girls,
who have cleared the plus Two exams, would be selected in each
district and provided intensive IAS training and given jobs to them.
They would be given three years training apart from boarding and
lodging facilities.
He also promised concessions and subsidies to those willing to set
up manufacturing facilities in the industrially backward districts. Apart from reviving the now defunct Legislative Council, the Congress also promised to introduce total prohibition, provide equal opportunities for women in education and jobs, inclusion of fishermen in the SC, ST list as per the recommendations of the Mandal Commission, repeal of the three Farm Laws and replace them with new laws to save the Tamil Nadu farmers, abolition of NEET exams, increasing the quota in medical and other courses for government school students from 7.5 per cent
to ten per cent, hike the old age pension and to pay them through
the postal department, launching of new power projects and enactment of special laws to prevent honour killings arising out of inter-caste marriages, besides enhanced compensation to media personnel who die in harness.
The manifesto also appealed to the voters to vote for the DMK-led Front to teach a lesson to the ‘anti-people’ BJP-led NDA government at the centre and oust the the ruling AIADMK for supporting it.
