Kerala conducts digital version of classes for over 43 lakh students of pre-primary to Std 12

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 29 (UNI) Kerala had added another golden feather in education by having ensured the digital version of classes for over 43 lakhs students of Pre-primary to Standard 12, during the Covid-19 difficult times.
The Digital Classes, titled ‘First Bell’ commenced from June 1, 2020, as an interim arrangement for regular classes, are telecasted through the Government owned KITE VICTERS educational channel, under KITE (Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education), its CEO Mr K Anvar Sadath said in a release here on Friday.
The telecast of all classes for 10th Standard was completed by January 17 and that of plus two, it will be completed by January 30, 2021.
As on date, KITE has developed and broadcasted 6200 class videos as part of the First Bell programme, which amount to over 3100 hours of educational content.
The Focus Area for each subject was published by General Education Department and on its basis the revision classes are being arranged from January 31 onwards.
“Initially we planned the First Bell programme for a period of two months only, but the Covid19 situation demanded it to extend through out the academic year,’ the CEO said.
“It was indeed a daunting task to develop the digital classes for all standards, especially for Plus Two in view of various combinations of subjects. But we were able to devise an all-inclusive digital class model to provide classes to all students without the fear of losing the academic year, upto the satisfaction of students and teachers.”, Mr Sadath added.
Kerala has already announced public examinations for Class 10 & 12 students from March 17, 2021 onwards. All class videos are made available in the website of First Bell ( firstbell.kite.kerala.gov.in ) , which is sorted classwise and episode wise for easy navigation.
In addition to this, specific episodes including focus areas and its duration would also made available in the portal, which would facilitate easy viewing of contents for students preparing for annual examination.
KITE has announced a revised schedule of First Bell classes from February one onwards. The Kilikonchal programe for Pre-primary classes would now be telecast at 1100 hrs from Monday to Friday. During these days along with classes from 1 to 9, there would be 7 classes for Plus One students in a day and will have more classes on weekends.
All changes in timings of the classes would be published in the First Bell portal.
Tremendous response has been received from students, parents and public on ‘First Bell’ classes which is evident from the fact that as much as 27 TB (Tera Byte) of data was downloaded in a single day through VICTERS web.
The subscriber base of the YouTube channel of VICTERS has crossed over 2.4 Million. Apart from India, the classes were also viewed by hundreds of people from Middle East as well as from America and European region.
