New Delhi, Sep 22(UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday praised Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh’s gesture of serving tea to suspended MPs of the House sitting on a ‘dharna’ at Gandhi statue in Parliament.

In a series of tweets, the Prime Minister said, ‘To personally serve tea to those who attacked and insulted him a few days ago as well as those sitting on Dharna shows that Mr Harivansh Ji has been blessed with a humble mind and a big heart. It shows his greatness. I join the people of India in congratulating Harivansh Ji.’

He said that the gesture by Mr Harivansh would make every democracy lover proud.

‘For centuries, the great land of Bihar has been teaching us the values of democracy. In line with that wonderful ethos, MP from Bihar and Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairperson Harivansh Ji’s inspiring and statesman like conduct this morning will make every democracy lover proud,’ the PM said.

In a show of ‘Gandhigiri’, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh on Tuesday served tea to suspended opposition MPs sitting on dharna at Gandhi statue in the Parliament premises.

Mr Harivansh went to the protesting members with tea and served it in cups this morning on the lawns of the parliament complex even as the suspended members called him “anti-farmer”.

Soon after, the Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman declared a one-day fast till Wednesday to express his anguish over attacks by the Opposition in Parliament.

The Opposition MPs have accused Deputy Chairman for not allowing a division of votes during the passage of the farm sector bills in the Rajya Sabha on Sunday.

The Opposition had moved a no confidence motion against the Deputy Chairman which was rejected on Monday by Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu.
