Pokhriyal lauds Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna University’s contribution in U’khand’s edu devt

New Delhi, Dec 1 (UNI) Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ on Monday lauded the contribution of Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna University in the educational development of Uttarakhand, saying it has made a great contribution.

Inaugurating the virtual convocation of the university, Dr Pokhriyal said the university has played a big role in the development in the education field. Earlier known as Garhwal University, it was established in 1973 in Shrinagar and was renamed Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna University in 1989.

He said Uttarakhand has created generations of new values ​​in the field of education. Entering the 47th year of its establishment, Uttarakhand is progressing in the field of knowledge, science and technology.

Welcoming the establishment of the Indian Himalayan Central University Consortium by the NITI Aayog at the university, the union minister said “Development of affordable and environmentally-friendly tourism in hilly areas will play an important role in the study of the area of ​​creation of employment opportunities and strategies for water conservation and promotion for migration control from the mountainous regions.”

Noting apprehensions about the Covid pandemic all over the world once again, Dr Pokhriyal said the government was fully prepared to deal with the pandemic. Accepting the tough challenges of Covid-19, the university completed the students’ courses through online teaching, he said, pointing out that the university developed LMS for online teaching and learning for which it has been appreciated.

He said the University has 40 research projects and entered into 26 national and international MoUs.

He expressed confidence that “according to the new National Education Policy 2020, the university will also realise the concept of 21st century knowledge era by striving for education, research, innovation and community development. Apart from this, the university will make its full contribution in the development of students’ new efforts in teaching and training and sensitivity towards prudent social responsibilities and moral values.”

He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had raised the slogan of ‘Vocal for Local’ and efforts are being made on a war-footing for it. Uttarakhand will try to realise the concept of Vocal for Local, One India-Best India and Self-reliant India (AtmaNirbhar Bharat) in this direction through education.
