SC rejects Kerala govt’s plea against CBI probe in Periya case

New Delhi, Dec 1 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld the Kerala High Court’s verdict and dismissed the Kerala government’s petition against the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe in the Periya twin murder case.

The controversial case pertains to the murder of 22-year-old Kripesh and 24-year-old Sharath Lal, two youth Congress workers in Kasaragod of Kerala. CPI(M) local leader Peethambaran is the key accused in the murder of the duo, which happened in February, 2019.

The Kerala HC, on the plea of the parents of the youth, had ordered a CBI investigation into the case last October. The government had then moved a division bench of the High Court against the order, but the division bench had also dismissed the appeal and upheld the CBI probe.

According to reports, Kerala government submitted before the Supreme Court that since the High Court has upheld the charge sheet, there was no need for a CBI probe, as it stated that investigation by the police was on the right track.
