FSSAI issues guidelines for consumption of poultry products

New Delhi, Jan 21 (UNI) Against the backdrop of the Bird Flu pandemic, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has said that consumption of poultry products is safe provided due care is taken during handling and cooking. In a guidance document on “Safe handling, processing and consumption of poultry meat and eggs during bird flu pandemic” for creating awareness amongst Food Business Operators (FBOs) and consumers, FSSAI has suggested that "proper cooking inactivates the virus present inside the meat and eggs".

Country witnesses more Bird flu cases in many states

New Delhi, Jan 17 (UNI) More cases of Avian Influenza have been confirmed in several districts of the country including Latur, Parbhani, Nanded, Pune, Solapur, Yavatmal, Ahmednagar, Beed and Raigad districts of Maharashtra.

Bird flu: Delhi poultry markets sample test negative

New Delhi, Jan 14 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday informed that the samples that were taken from the poultry markets, here, have tested negative with respect to the Avian Influenza, commonly known as the Bird Flu.

Bird Flu outbreak reaches 8 states including Delhi

New Delhi, Jan 11 (UNI) Outbreak of avian influenza, which is commonly known as bird flu, has reached eight States including the national capital of Delhi and Maharashtra. The ducks were reported dead in Sanjay Lake in Delhi on Sunday and the samples were sent to Jalandhar for examination. Bird flu has been confirmed in the investigation of crows and ducks found dead in parks and lake.

New Delhi, Jan. 11 (UNI) With samples from Sanjay Lake testing positive for bird flu, the Delhi Government has restricted the supply of processed chicken from outside Delhi. Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Monday said the government was taking all precautionary measures to check the spread of bird flu in the Capital.

Centre confirms the spread of Bird Flu in 10 states

New Delhi, Jan 11 (UNI) The Centre on Monday confirmed the spread of Avian Influenza (AV) in 10 states of the country. Till January 11, bird flu has been confirmed in ten states of the country, department of animal husbandry and dairying said in a statement.

Bird Flu: Hundreds of chicken dumped in the forest

Chikkaballapur, Jan 9 (UNI) Several poultry farmers have allegedly dumped their chicken in the forest on Saturday due to the bird flu scare. They were dumped in the forest area near the Nantahala village in the district. Officials said that due to quarrel between the poultry farmers and multinational companies that supply poultry, farmers have dumped thousands of chickens in the nearby forest.

New Delhi, Jan 6 (UNI) Advising people on safe ways to consume meat, poultry products amid Avian Influenza or ‘Bird Flu’ outbreak in a few districts of Kerala, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, the Animal Husbandry, Dairy and Fisheries Minister Giriraj Singh on Wednesday said that there was nothing to worry about consuming eggs and meat but only precaution has to be taken that these should be fully cooked.

Pong dam: epicentre of bird flu in HP

Shimla, Jan 6 (UNI) Besides reeling with the Corona pandemic, Himachal Pradesh will now have to deal with another threat of an outbreak - Avian Influenza (AI) reported from four States of the country. After three days of confirmation of AI, one dozen epicentres were identified by the Government of India incluiding Pong dam wildlife sanctuary in Kangra district and nearby area of Hamirpur.
