New Delhi, May 31 (UNI) The Indian Navy on Monday informed that Rear Admiral IB Uthaiah took over as the Admiral Superintendent of Visakhapatnam Naval Dockyard from Rear Admiral Sreekumar Nair. He was commissioned into the Indian Navy in November 1987 and he holds a B Tech Degree in Marine Engineering, an M Tech Degree in Mathematical Modelling and Computer Simulation and also an M Phil Degree in Strategic Studies.

Indian Navy’s ‘Disaster Relief Team’ was deployed on May 27 at Sadar block of Balasore district for carrying out relief activities in the area around Parikhi village which is worst affected due to water logging.

New Delhi, May 7 (UNI) The Indian Navy on Friday said that in view of rising number of Coronavirus cases in Khurda district of Odisha, it has set up a 150 bedded Covid care facility at its ab-initio Training Establishment, INS Chilka, under the aegis of Naval Officer -in- Charge (Odisha). This Centre, inaugurated by the district collector today, has 150 bed isolation centre with additional 15 bed oxygen facility at naval hospital at INHS Nivarini, the naval hospital, has been geared up for treating mild symptomatic Covid positive Patients.

New Delhi, May 7 (UNI) The Indian Navy on Friday said that it has deployed its ships INS Talwar, INS Kolkata, INS Airavat, INS Kochi, INS Tabar, INS Trikand, INS Jalashwa and INS Shardul to ferry oxygen containers, cylinders, concentrators and related equipment from friendly foreign countries. According to the Navy officials, INS Talwar has already docked at New Mangalore port with two oxygen containers of 27 TM capacity on May 5.

New Delhi, May 1 (UNI) In support of the nation’s fight against Covid-19 and as part of operation 'Samudra Setu II’, the Indian Navy on Saturday said that seven Indian Naval ships INS Kolkata, Kochi, Talwar, Tabar, Trikand, Jalashwa and Airavat have been deployed for shipment of liquid medical oxygen-filled cryogenic containers and associated medical equipment from various countries. INS Kolkata and INS Talwar which were on Persian Gulf deployment, were the first to immediately diverted for the task and entered port of Manama, Bahrain on April 30.

SC stays dismantling of INS Viraat

New Delhi, Feb 10 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Wednesday stayed the dismantling of decommissioned aircraft carrier INS Viraat, on a plea by a firm which wanted to convert the ship into a maritime museum & multi-functional adventure centre. The aircraft carrier was commissioned into the Indian Navy in 1987 after which it served for almost 30 years and was decommissioned in March 2017.
