Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu and Department of Agriculture Production & Farmers Welfare, Jammu jointly organized five days “Training of Trainers (TOT) Capacity Building of FPO’s in J&K” in collaboration with MANAGE-Hyderabad in the Division of Agricultural Extension Education, Faculty of Agriculture, Chatha from 09-13, December 2024. The capacity building program has been organized under HADP-20 project entitled “Innovative Extension Approaches for Revitalizing Agriculture in Jammu & Kashmir”.
Prof. Rajinder Peshin, Director Education, SKUAST, Jammu was chief guest during the inaugural function and Dr. Mahital Jamwal, Assoc. Director Research was guest of honour on the occasion. In his inaugural address, Prof Rajinder Peshin, Director Education, SKUAST, Jammu appreciated the efforts of Division of Agricultural Extension Education, SKUAST-Jammu and Department of Agriculture, Jammu for organizing capacity building program for the field functionaries of agriculture and allied sector on this important topic: Training of Trainers (TOT) Capacity Building of FPO’s in J&K. Prof. Peshin put emphasis on practical and theoretical type of trainings so, that trainees can efficiently utilize the knowledge acquired during the training program at ground level. He stressed that all the nitty-gritties of FPO’s formation should be clearly highlighted during the capacity building program so, that trainees do not have any doubt in mind.
Dr. Mahital Jamwal, Assoc. Director Research highlighted the significance of such events to refresh the knowledge of the officers of line departments and provide platforms to interact with the experts to get better solution to the problems faced by them on field. Mr. Asif Mohi-Ud-Din, Faculty Manage Hyderabad briefed the house about programme schedule of the five days training programme.
Initially Dr.Vinod Gupta, Professor & Head Division of Agricultural Extension Education/PI of the project entitled “Innovative Extension Approaches for Revitalizing Agricultural in J&K” in his address deliberated on the series of the training program being conducted for the master trainers of Development Departments. He further highlighted the importance of conducting such trainings for the formation of FPO’s as he said that, it is the future of Group Farming in India for solving all problems, like marketing, post harvest management and farmers upbringing.
Sh. Raj Kumar, Technical Officer, Directorate of Agriculture, Jammu formally welcomed all the dignitaries and participants at the five days capacity building program, in his address highlighted the role of HADP project in transforming the agriculture landscape of J&K. He instructed the trainees to interact with the Faculty of MANAGE Hyderabad about formation of FPO’s in their respective operational areas. More than 60 officers of Agriculture, Horticulture, Fisheries & Sericulture Departments registered for the capacity building programme. The inaugural functions was graced by Prof. L. K. Sharma and Prof. Poonam Parihar.
