Six US police officers suspended for alleged misconduct during capitol riots: Reports

MOSCOW, Feb 19 (Sputnik) Six US Capitol police officers have been suspended with pay and another 29 have been put under investigation over their actions during the riots on Capitol Hill on January 6, CNN reported, citing a police spokesman.
“Acting Chief Yogananda Pittman has directed that any member of her department whose behavior is not in keeping with the Department’s Rules of Conduct will face appropriate discipline,” police spokesman John Stolnis told the broadcaster.
In January, media reported that the Capitol police were investigating at least 10 officers, while two were suspended.
According to Tim Ryan, a member of the House of Representatives from Ohio, one of the suspended officers took a selfie with a protester, while another officer was wearing a hat with then-President Donald Trump’s slogan “Make America Great Again.”
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on Tuesday the US Congress would establish a special commission to investigate the January 6 attack on the US Capitol.
On January 6, Trump’s supporters stormed Capitol Hill in a bid to prevent Congress from certifying Joe Biden’s presidential election victory. At least five people, including a female air force veteran, were killed and over 170 cases have been opened by police in connection with the riots.
