New Delhi,тАУ Delhi Congress president Shri Devender Yadav raised alarm over the growing number of vehicle thefts in the national capital, calling it a serious and unchecked menace. He criticized the BJP-led “Triple Engine” Government for failing to tackle the issue effectively, leaving citizens vulnerable amid a surge in overall crime.
Yadav revealed that 259 vehicle thefts have already been reported this yearтАФan increase of 52% compared to last year. He said vehicles are being stolen from homes, streets, petrol pumps, parks, and even school premises, but police often refuse to file FIRs, citing helplessness.
“When FIRs are registered, most are closed without proper investigation. The police treat these cases casually, assuming that insurance will cover the loss, which discourages meaningful action,” he added.
Yadav alleged that organized gangs are behind the theft of high-end cars, two-wheelers, autos, and e-rickshaws. Despite this, the anti-auto theft squad has failed to contain the problem. He pointed to growing theft cases in areas like Rohini, Paschim Vihar, Ashok Vihar, Defence Colony, Greater Kailash, Preet Vihar, Malviya Nagar, and Janakpuri.
Blaming both the previous Aam Aadmi Party and the current Rekha Gupta administration, Yadav said ineffective governance has led to increased vehicle theft, snatching, and crimes against women. He also criticized the poor upkeep of DelhiтАЩs CCTV network, stating that 32,000 out of 2.64 lakh cameras are non-functional, enabling criminals to escape unnoticed.
