A three day, 41st Annual Conference of the Indian Association of Veterinary Pathologists (IAVP) and the 15th Annual Meeting of the Indian College of Veterinary Pathologists (ICVP) and National symposium on “Exploring Veterinary Pathology and Diagnostic Innovations in Animal and Poultry Disease Amidst Climatic Challenges” concluded today at SKUAST-Jammu. The conference was organized by the Division of Veterinary Pathology, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, SKUAST-Jammu, Indian Association of Veterinary Pathologists and Indian College of Veterinary Pathologists. The conference also coincided with the Golden Jubilee year of IAVP’s establishment in 1974.
In the conference more than 300 delegates from National and International repute participated, deliberating in nine different scientific sessions including a Golden jubilee special session. A total of 36 lead papers and 311 abstracts were presented in eight different scientific sessions by various delegates focusing on innovations in diagnostic tools and techniques, climate-related challenges, and strategies to mitigate the impact of emerging diseases. The conference was also enlightened by three international experts from USA, who deliberated on pertinent issues.
Prof. B.N. Tripathi, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu, President IAVP chaired the valedictory function. He opined that the three-day event brought together experts, academicians, and researchers to address emerging challenges in veterinary pathology and explore innovative solutions in the face of changing climatic conditions. He emphasized the vital role of veterinary pathology as a backbone in animal disease diagnosis, thereby safeguarding animal health and ensuring the sustainability of livestock production in an era marked by climate change. He remarked that climatic variations have significantly impacted disease patterns, leading to the emergence and re-emergence of various infectious diseases in animals and poultry. Veterinary pathologists are at the forefront of diagnosing these diseases, helping mitigate their impact on animal health, food security, and livelihoods. He highlighted that the theme aligns perfectly with the growing need to develop advanced diagnostic tools and techniques that address the complexities of disease management in changing climatic conditions. He urged participants to leverage this platform to foster collaborations and exchange innovative ideas, ultimately driving advancements in the field. He also talked about One-Health concept in mitigating the zoonotic diseases and also because of climate change, the emergence of new diseases.
At the outset, Dr. Rajesh Katoch, Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, SKUAST-J, and Co-Chairman of VPC-2024, welcomed the dignitaries and delegates and wish them a happy return to their homes.
Dr. G.A. Balasubramaniam, Secretary General presented the report of IAVP and announced awards and Dr. R.V.S. Pawaiya, Secretary, ICVP, presented reports on the activities and achievements of their respective organizations. A total of seven ICVP diplomates were awarded in the current conference.
Statutory officers and staff members of university, students, delegates and media personnel were present on the occasion. Dr. Pankaj Goswami, Organizing Secretary, VPC 2024 acknowledged participants, sponsors and all the persons who directly or indirectly supported and helped to make this event a great success. Dr Shilpa Sood, Co-Organizing Secretary presented final vote of thanks.
