NEW DELHI, July 3, 2025 — Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee President Shri Devender Yadav said that at a time when the people of Delhi are plagued by power cuts and water crisis, and the Delhi Government is recklessly demolishing the slum clusters to throw out the poor in the open, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is spending crores of rupees for renovating her official residence ‘Phoolkumari Niwas’ into a virtual palace, to show that she is no different from Kejriwal who lived in a Sheesh Mahal at the expense of the tax payers of Delhi. He said that ₹ 59.40 lakh has been estimated for the renovation of Bungalow No-1 (Raj Niwas Road), with ₹ 11 lakh for air conditioning and ₹ 6 lakh on lights and chandeliers. Apart from this, special non-disrupted power system of ₹ 2 lakh is also being installed.
Shri Devender Yadav said that this reckless spending for the renovation of the CM residence could increase manifold in the future, as seen in the ‘Shees Mahal’ construction by the Kejriwal government, which spent ₹ 110 crore for reconstruction of the CM residence at Flag Staff Road. He said that now the Chief Minister of BJP is also following the corrupt model of Kejriwal by ignoring the protest of the public.
Shri Devender Yadav questioned that when a majority of population of Delhi is forced to drink contaminated water, is it not a cruel joke with the public to install the latest RO system in the CM’s bungalow? He wondered if she could not drink the tap water herself, then why should the public believe in the ‘water testing lab’ announced by her government in the budget? Surprisingly Chief Justice Bench of Delhi High Court scolded Delhi Jal Board for supplying black sewer water with Tap water, this exposes the failures of Delhi Government.
Shri Devender Yadav said that the CM has been raising the issue of women’s safety, but when women are feeling insecure in the capital, the Chief Minister issued tenders to install 14 CCTV cameras at a cost of ₹ 5.74 lakh at her official bungalow on priority, but no information was given on the status of 50,000 cameras announced in the budget to be installed across the Capital.
Shri Devender Yadav said that the luxury items at the CM bungalow also boast of five television sets being installed for ₹ 9.3 lakh, in which a special 165 cm TV is being put for the Chief Minister so that she can watch the news of the slums being razed down on the big screen from the comforts of her posh bungalow. He said that at a cost of ₹ 7.76 lakh, 14 air conditioners would also be installed, and with uninterrupted power supply ensured, the CM will live with all the possible luxury by ignoring the plight of the common people.
