New Delhi, August 13, 2025 — Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee chief Devender Yadav has urged the government to waive toll charges for villagers whose farmland was taken at low prices for the construction of the Dwarka Expressway. He argued that these residents often rely on the road for daily travel to Haryana and Rajasthan, and the current toll rates are far beyond the means of ordinary commuters.
Yadav accused the BJP of turning the August 16 inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi into a political showcase while enabling toll contractors to profit from “sky-high” fees. He noted that while the expressway was built using taxpayers’ money, the real beneficiaries are private toll operators and select builders.
According to Yadav, the cost of using UER-2 could make it the priciest toll road in the country — with cars charged ₹235 one way and ₹350 for a return trip, buses facing fees of ₹860 one way and ₹1,290 return, and similar steep rates for other vehicle categories. He warned that such pricing would defeat the expressway’s purpose of providing fast, congestion-free travel.
He further suggested that instead of burdening the public, the government should collect revenue from builders who obtained land at minimal rates along the expressway for commercial projects worth crores. For fairness, Yadav insisted on free passage for displaced villagers and a substantial reduction in toll rates for all other users.
