
20th Parthenium awareness camp organised at SKUAST Jammu
Under the able guidance of the Hon’ble Vice-chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu Prof. B.N. Tripathi and Director Research Prof. Dr. S.K.Gupta, AICRP-Weed Management, Division of Agronomy, SKUAST-Jammu organised Parthenium awareness campaign on 18th of August, 2025 at village Chatha Pind. Dr B. R. Bazaya, Chief Scientist and in-charge, AICRP-WM, graced this event. He highlighted the harmful effects of Parthenium weed on the human health and ecosystem. He also highlighted various biological approaches for management of this noxious weed. He advised farmers to start vigorous campaign to eradicate parthenium completely from the block level. Dr. Manpreet Kour, Senior Scientist and Co-PI, AICRP Weed Management suggested various applications of Parthenium in agriculture through its composting value, bio-pesticide properties and other beneficial uses.The parthenium awareness camp was also endured by Dr. Neetu Sharma, Professor, Agronomy having a detailed talk on chemical management of Parthenium. Dr.S.K.Mishra, Associate professor also joined the programme and delivered lecture on integratedmanagement of Parthenium. Later on all the participants pledged to eradicate this harmful weed and promised to further disseminate the useful information provided by the scientists among other stakeholders in all possible ways to the farming community. More than 35 farmers and university staff took part in the programme. The awareness programme was ended with vote of thanks by Ravinder Singh Chib, Sarpanch of Chatha pind Panchayat.
