NEW DELHI, August 20, 2025 тАУ Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav has termed the assault on Chief Minister Rekha Gupta at her Civil Lines residence during a public meeting as a serious security failure. He said that if the CM herself can be attacked inside a high-security zone, it reflects the worsening state of law and order in the Capital.
Yadav questioned how ordinary citizens, especially women, could feel safe when even the Chief Minister faces such threats. He pointed out that the accused, against whom multiple police complaints already exist, managed to reach the CM, exposing negligence on the part of the security forces.
Calling violence in politics unacceptable, Yadav demanded strict punishment for the attacker and wished CM Rekha Gupta a speedy recovery. He further criticized the Delhi government and police, saying that while crimes like snatching, robbery, assaults on women, and the drug trade are rising, authorities seem indifferent.
Highlighting CM GuptaтАЩs recent assurance in the Assembly about womenтАЩs safety during night shifts, Yadav said such promises appear hollow when the police cannot even safeguard the Chief Minister. He urged the Lieutenant Governor, Union Home Minister, and Police Commissioner to immediately strengthen security and restore confidence among citizens.
