Youths feeling let down after govt rolling out Agnipath scheme: Tejaswi

Patna, June 22 : Leader of the opposition in Bihar Tejaswi Prasad Yadav on Wednesday alleged that youths were feeling let down after the Narendra Modi government rolled out the Agnipath recruitment scheme in Armed Forces and demanded its immediate withdrawal.

Yadav along with leaders of the Grand Alliance took out protest march from Assembly premises to Rajbhawan and handed over a memorandum to Governor Phagu Chauhan.

In the memorandum, demand was made for immediate withdrawal of Agnipath scheme for recruitment of jawans in all three wings of Armed Forces.

Leader of the opposition, after handing over the memorandum to Governor, told media persons that great injustice was meted out to youths by rolling out the Agnipath recruitment scheme. What would they do after serving on contract basis for four years in Armed Forces, he asked.

” How could youths serving as Agniveers protect the border if their future remained dark”, Yadav pointed out. He demanded immediate withdrawal of the Agnipath recruitment scheme in the larger

interest of the country and youths.

The leader of the opposition said that all youths arrested during agitation to protest the Agnipath scheme should be released from jail. All those arrested while venting ire against the Agnipath scheme were innocent and their grievances should be addressed, instead of torturing them, he felt.

Yadav said that the government was not making any obligation to youths by giving them Rs 14 lakhs after serving 4 years as Agniveers in Armed Forces. BJP leaders should send their sons into the armed forces as Agniveers and RJD would give them Rs 24 lakhs after 4 years of their service, he added.

The leader of the opposition said that the Agnipath scheme was hidden agenda of RSS. He also asked Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to break his silence on the issue.

Former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Agnipath recruitment scheme. She alleged that the Centre was harassing youths instead of providing jobs to them.
