Sensex down 709.54 pts

Mumbai, Jun 22 : Snapping a winning streak of last two sessions, the BSE Sensex on Wednesday dropped 709.54 pts to settle at 51,822.53 on profit booking by local operators.

The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too slipped 225.50 pts at 15,413.30.

The Sensex opened on a weak note at 52,186.36, fell 346 pts. During the session, it was lost ground by 793 pts at 51,739.98, days low, before closing at 51,822.53, sliding 709.54 pts from its previous close.

The sensex registered days high and low at 52,272.85 and 51,739.98 pts respectively.

The Nifty recorded days high and low at 15,565.40 and 15,385.95 respectively.

The sectoral indices like Metal, Materials, Realty, Power and Energy stocks dragged the market.

In scrips, Tata Steel was a major loser, down by 5.40 pc to Rs 836.50 followed by Reliance Industries by 3.15 pc to Rs 2503.15, Wipro by 3.08 pc to Rs 412.15, IndusInd Bank by 2.78 pc to Rs 776.45 and HCL Technology by 2.72 pc to Rs 960.50.

The gainers were TCS by 0.37 pc to Rs 3224 and Powergrid by 0.05 pc to Rs 210.50.

The Mid Cap declined by 1.53 pc and Small Cap by 1.11 pc.

In 30 scrips, 2 advanced while 28 declined.

Asian Market was seen weak as Australia was down by 0.28 pc followed by China by 1.12 pc, Hong Kong by 2.56 pc and Japan by 2.37 pc.
