Mumbai, July 28 : The BSE Sensex on Thursday posted another huge gain of 1,041.47 points at 56,857.79 following gains in IT, technology, realty and finance stocks.
The Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) too rose 287.80 points at 16,929.60.
The Sensex rose 451 points at 56,267 in opening trade. It spurted 1,098 points at 56,914.22, the day’s high, before closing at 56,857.79, advancing 1,041.47 points from its last close.
The Sensex registered the day’s high and low at 56,914.23 and 56,236.45 points respectively.
The Nifty recorded the day’s high and low at 16,947.65 and 16,746.25 respectively.
Sectoral indices like IT, technology, realty and finance stocks kept the market strong.
In scrips, Bajaj finance was a major gainer, up 10.42 per cent to Rs 7,060 followed by Bajaj Finserv by 10.29 per cent to Rs 14,672.30, Tata Steel by 4.40 per cent to Rs 100.20, Kotak Bank by 4.34 per cent to Rs 1,830 and IndusInd Bank by 3.86 per cent to Rs 1,017.30.
The losers were Bharti Airtel by 1.13 per cent to Rs 667.20, Ultracemco by 0.99 per cent to Rs 6,474, Dr Reddy’s Lab by 0.73 per cent to Rs 4,254 and ITC by 0.28 per cent to Rs 303.
The Mid Cap rose by 0.94 per cent and Small Cap by 0.65 per cent.
In 30 scrips, 25 advanced while 5 declined.
