SAD asks Navjot Sidhu to tell Punjabis why he has whittled downs his demands

Chandigarh, Jul 28 : The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Wednesday asked Punjab Congress President Navjot Sidhu to tell Punjabis why he had whittled down the eighteen point charter handed over to the State government by the Congress high command to five points to provide relief to the sand and liquor mafia.

Interacting with the media, SAD Spokesman Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said it was intriguing that Navjot Sidhu experienced a change of heart after Congress ministers aligned with the sand and liquor mafia and switched over to his camp and he had given up his supposed fight against these mafias. “This is the reason why this demand has disappeared from Sidhu’s agenda of demands put up before the chief minister Tuesday”.

Asserting that the Congress party had adopted new standards on measuring corruption as per their convenience, Dr Cheema said even former PPCC President Sunil Jakhar seemed to have fallen victim to the same affliction. “Jakhar feels one cabinet minister who has taken double compensation for the same piece of land is corrupt but has nothing to say about other corrupt ministers in the State cabinet who have been embroiled in one scam after another be it the SC scholarship scam, de-addiction tablet scam or the seed scam”.

Stating that people would not be befooled with this selective approach towards corruption, the SAD leader said “the fact of the matter is that the entire Congress party in Punjab is steeped in corruption. The Congress high command is well aware of this. This is why they have gone in for a change in face in Navjot Sidhu to divert the attention of the people from the scams perpetrated by its party government in Punjab as well as the complete callousness of the government in fulfilling the promises made to the people.

Even Navjot Sidhu is functioning as per this modus operandi. This is why he has not demanded in his charter of demands that the chief minister implement a complete farm loan waiver or provide jobs to youth in each household as promised or do away with the menace of drugs. Sidhu is not saying all this because he does not have any intention to get the promises made to the people fulfilled. He like Capt Amarinder Singh in his earlier role as PPC chief also wants to befool the people with false promises. But try as he might Punjabis will not be befooled again”, Dr Cheema added.
