Sunflower procurement to commence in Haryana from June 1 : Dushyant

Chandigarh, May 19 (UNI) Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala said that government procurement of sunflower will commence in the state from June 1, for which seven mandis have been earmarked.
As many as 8283 farmers have registered on the portal so far to sell their sunflower crops, and soon the portal will be opened for one more day for farmers to register their crops, Mr Chautala, who also holds the portfolio of the Food and Supplies Department, said during a press conference on Wednesday.
He said that the state government has set a Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs 5885 per quintal for sunflower, however, it is a matter of joy that farmers are getting more value for their crop in the open market. He hoped that in future also farmers get better price for sunflower. The Central Government has also given approval to procure 25,000 quintals.
Mr Chautala said that this time procurement of wheat by the State Government started from April 1, 2021 and so far a total of 85,30,000 MT of wheat has been procured. In fact this time, 82,10,000 MT of wheat has been lifted in a record time, due to which the farmers did not have to face loss due to the storm and rain.
He informed that for the first time after the sale of wheat crop, Rs 15598 crore have been sent directly to the bank account of the farmers. For the first time in the country, the Haryana Government made a provision under which 9 per cent interest was paid to the farmer if there was a delay in making a farmer’s payment. About Rs 77 lakh have been given to such farmers of the state as additional interest.
