NEW DELHI, In a significant development, representatives from all 56 unions of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) met with Delhi Congress President Shri Devender Yadav at the DPCC headquarters, Rajiv Bhawan, to voice long-standing concerns about sanitation workers’ rights.
Union leaders conveyed that thousands of workers, despite serving for over two decades, remain unregularised and are denied basic health and welfare benefits. They urged the Congress councillors in the MCD to take their issues to the floor of the House with urgency.
Responding to the workers’ appeal, Shri Devender Yadav expressed unwavering solidarity, promising that Congress councillors would strongly advocate their demands within the Corporation and compel the Mayor to take concrete action for regularisation.
The meeting was attended by key union leaders, including Naresh Pihal (President), Ram Kumar Bidlan (Convenor), Khanna Dhikoliya (Working President), Rajesh Tank (Legal Advisor), Raju Balmiki and Ramesh Tank (General Secretaries), Trilok Chand (Senior Vice President), and Naresh Luhera (Secretary).
Shri Yadav criticized both BJP and AAP for failing sanitation workers, stating that despite holding power at the Centre and in Delhi respectively, neither party has delivered on promises of regular employment. He also pointed to the lack of progress on the February 2025 proposal to regularise 12,000 temporary employees and address compassionate appointments.
Highlighting another key issue, he said the delay in implementing the old pension scheme and non-payment of arrears for retired employees is unjustifiable, and that Congress would continue to raise these demands forcefully.
