In last 2 months, over 25 lakh tests conducted, oxygen supported beds increased manifold in J&K

Jammu, Jun 7 (UNI) To further strengthen the health and medical infrastructure in fight against COVID-19 pandemic, in the last two months, more than 25 lakh tests were performed while oxygen supported beds were also increased manifold across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Financial Commissioner, Health and Medical Education, Atul Dulloo here told UNI that during the last two months, major accomplishments of the Health and Medical Education Department took place in fighting against COVID-19 Pandemic.
Mr Dulloo said that the Testing Capacities have been increased in the last two months and in this period, 25,51,157 tests were performed.
“Average Test per day is 42,000 which is around 3400 tests per million Population per day,” said Mr Dulloo.
He added that the UT has installed Three COBAS 680 Machines in the last 2 months at SKIMS Srinagar, GMC Jammu and GMC Srinagar, which has enhanced RT-PCR capacities to around 15,000 tests per day.
On surge in isolation capacities for treatment of COVID-19 Positive patients, the Financial Commissioner added that in Category-I, (Tertiary care level for Severe to Critical cases) Isolation Beds have been increased to 2226 from 869, which is an increase of 156 percent whereas in Category-II (For Moderate to Severe Cases), Isolation beds have been increased to 4205 from 2006, which is an increase of 110 percent.
Mr Dulloo further said that the oxygen supported beds had been increased to 6108 from 2396 with an increase of 156 percent in the last two months, ensuring not even a single patient is denied oxygen supported bed.
Adding on, the official said that ICU Beds had also been increased to 562 from 333 with 69 percent Increase while two 500 bedded DRDO hospitals with 125 ICU beds have been built and functionalized to further enhance the capacities of UT.
Mr Dulloo said that the adequate oxygen is available by fast-tracking the Installation of Oxygen Generation Plants and added, “out of 82 newly sanctioned oxygen generation plants 40 have been made functional in last two months, adding 35,975 LMP oxygen availability to existing 15,082 LMP.”
“Oxygen availability and utilisation has been rationalised and no institution has run out of oxygen and moreover more than 5000 oxygen concentrators have been distributed to isolation facilities in the last two months,” he added.
The Financial Commissioner said that vaccination Campaign for 45 years and above was taken aggressively in this period, adding, “UT of J&K has been the top achiever in India with more than 73 percent of population above 45 years have been vaccinated with first dose of Vaccine which had started from April 1, 2021.”
“Approximately, 26 Lakh doses were administered in the last two months, while more than 22 lakh beneficiaries above the age of 45 years have been vaccinated with first dose and over 1.8 lakh beneficiaries between 18 years to 44 years have also been vaccinated since May 1,” maintained the Financial Commissioner, Health and Medical Education.
