India adds 43,654 COVID-19 cases, 640 deaths

New Delhi, Jul 28 : India recorded 43,654 new cases of COVID-19 during the past 24 hours pushing the case tally to 3,14,84,605, while the death toll mounted to 4,22,022 with 640 more fatalities, the Union Health Ministry said on Wednesday. According to the Ministry, the active cases rose by 1,336 to stand at 3,99,436. It is now 1.27 per cent of the total caseload.

The past 24 hours saw 41,678 people recovering from the deadly virus, taking the total recovery count to 3,06,63,147, which is 97.39 per cent of the case tally. The fatality rate stood at 1.34 per cent. The daily positivity has remained less than 5 per cent and was 2.51 per cent for the past one day.

On Tuesday, the country had reported less than 30,000 daily cases after a gap of almost four months (132 days), however, the cases once showed an upward trajectory in the past 24 hours.

Of the fresh demises, 254 were reported from Maharashtra followed by 156 from Kerala and 60 from Odisha.

Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that a total of 46,09,00,978 samples have been tested so far for coronavirus. Of this, 17,36,857 were tested on Tuesday.

Till now, 44,61,56,659 people have been administered COVID-19 vaccines, with 40,02,358 being inoculated against the virus in the past 24 hours.

More than 46.23 crore (46,23,27,530) vaccine doses have been provided to States/UTs so far, through all sources and a further 1,20,70,820 doses are in the pipeline.

Of this, the total consumption including wastages is 44,29,95,780 doses (as per data available at 8 AM today).

More than 2.18 Cr (2,18,10,422) balance and unutilized COVID Vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs and private hospitals to be administered.
