India records spike of 86,432 COVID-19 cases; Tally crosses 40 lakh-mark , recovery rate stands at 77.23 pc

New Delhi, Sep 5 (UNI) India registered a record single-day spike of 86,432 new COVID-19 cases and 1,089 deaths the past 24 hours, as per the Union Health Ministry’s data update on Saturday. With the new additions, the overall tally has zoomed past 40 lakh mark on Saturday, with the figure presently standing at 40,23,179, while the death has toll climbed to 69,561. As per the official data, the active caseload on the nation now stands at 8,46,395.

Meanwhile, the total number of recoveries so far has now increased to 31,07,223, which includes 70,072 fresh recoveries clocked in the past one day. With this, the recovery rate has now reached 77.23 per cent while the fatality rate stands at 1.73 per cent.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), in the past 24 hours, 10,59,346 samples were tested, taking the total tests conducted to 4,77,38,491. The case tally climbed to 8,63,062 in the worst-affected Maharashtra, 4,76,506 in Tamil Nadu and 4,51,827 in Andhra Pradesh.

The death toll rose to 25,964 in Maharashtra, 7,687 in Tamil Nadu and 6,170 in Karnataka. Globally, the United States remains the worst-infected, with more than 63 lakh cases, followed by Brazil, recording over 40 lakh infections.
