India reports 83,809 fresh COVID cases; recovery rate 78.28 pc

New Delhi, Sep 15 (UNI) India on Tuesday recorded 83,809 new COVID-19 cases and 1,054 more deaths in the past 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministry update here. With the new additions, the case tally of the second-worst hit country zoomed past 49 lakh-mark to stand at 49,30,237. Fatality count has now reached over 80 k, pushing the toll to 80,776, while the death percentage is at 1.64 per cent.

The number of discharged cases clocked since Monday stood at 79,292, the government data update said, adding that the recovery rate currently has improved to 78.28 per cent.

As per the official data, the total number of recovered has now reached 38,59,400 in numbers and 78.28 in percentage.

Currently, there are 9,90,061 active cases across the nation , that are 20.08 per cent of the total cases registered so far.

Maharashtra remains the worst affected state in the country, followed by Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), as many as 10,72,845 samples were tested in the past 24 hours, taking the total cumulative samples tested since the beginning of the pandemic till Monday to 5,83,12,273.

Globally, United States continues to remain the most-infected, followed by India and Brazil.
