Kashmir:1,055 people fined, 248 arrested for violating COVID curfew in Kashmir

Srinagar, May 21 (UNI) As many as 1,055 people were fined while 248 others were arrested during the last 24 hours in Kashmir valley for violating COVID curfew and other guidelines imposed by the administration to curtail the spread of the virus.
A J&K police spokesperson on Friday said that since the outbreak of second wave of Coronavirus, police have enhanced its efforts to sensitise the masses about controlling the highly contagious infection. “Slew of measures, including restrictions under section 144 CrPC, have been put into place to contain the spread of Covid-19,” he said.
He said during the last 24 hours, police has arrested 248 persons, lodged 96 FIRs and also realized fine to the tune of Rs 1,38,240 from 1055 people for violating the guidelines/rules in Kashmir valley. Besides, he said five shopkeepers were also booked by police in Budgam for violating Covid-19 norms.
“The special drive against the violators of Covid-19 guidelines/rules continued throughout all the districts of Kashmir Valley to ensure that people adhere to SOPs/ guidelines envisaged by government to curb COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.
He said community members are once again requested to cooperate with the Police in containing the spread of Coronavirus by following the SOPs/ guidelines/ protocols for the safety of the people. “The special drive shall continue throughout the districts of Kashmir Valley to strengthen the safety measures,
