Telangana records 2,909 fresh COVID-19 cases, six fatalities until Friday night

As the Coronavirus surge continues, Telangana registered a whopping 2,909 fresh COVID-19 cases until 2000 hours on Friday, which is one of the biggest single-day spikes of the positive cases in the state, taking the infection tally to 3,24,091 so far.

The cumulative toll in the state mounted to 1,752 after six patients died of COVID-19 in a span of 24 hours translating a case fatality rate of 0.54 per cent as against the countrywide mortality rate of 1.3 per cent, according to a state health department bulletin here on Saturday.

As many as 584 people have recovered from Coronavirus statewide pushing the total number of recoveries thus far to 3,04,548 constituting a recovery rate of 93.96 per cent while the National average was 90.8 per cent.

Active cases in the state currently stand at 17,791 including 11,495 individuals in home or institutional isolation, the bulletin said.

Between Thursday and Friday, 1,11,726 swab samples were tested in the state to detect the contagious virus and out of which the reports of 4,533 swab samples are awaited.

For the first time in recent months, the number of samples tested breached the one crore mark.

Since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, more than one crore and eight lakh COVID-19 tests have been carried out in the state so far.

The worst-hit Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), remaining the main contributor of the infection, recorded 487 new Coronavirus cases as of yesterday, followed by Medchal Malkajigiri district (289), Ranagreddy district (225), Nizamabad district (202), Nirmal district (131), Jagityal district (121), Sangareddy district (117) and Kamareddy district (102).
The remaining Coronavirus cases have been reported by other districts, the bulletin added.
