NEW DELHI, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Shri Devender Yadav criticized the BJP government’s cleanliness campaign, saying true upkeep of Delhi requires consistent effort, not short-term campaigns. The “Freedom from Garbage” drive, originally scheduled for August 1–30, has now been extended to October 2, highlighting the government’s inability to achieve its targets.
Yadav alleged that CM Rekha Gupta, her Cabinet colleagues, and Delhi MPs used the drive more for photo opportunities than for actual groundwork. Despite filling all 62,000 sanctioned sanitation posts in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the city continues to struggle with garbage accumulation, poor hygiene, and mosquito breeding.
He further accused the BJP and MCD officials of corruption and negligence, stating that essential sanitation services remain inadequate in unauthorised colonies, resettlement areas, villages, markets, schools, and public spaces. According to Yadav, the government’s repeated promises to eliminate the Bhalswa, Okhla, and Ghazipur landfill mountains are unlikely to materialize, especially as waste-to-energy plants have yet to become operational.
“The BJP government’s new deadlines and announcements appear more like political tactics than actual plans to clean Delhi,” Yadav added, pointing out the party’s long history of inaction in the city.
