NEW DELHI, August 25, 2025 — Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Shri Devender Yadav has criticized the recent Delhi Metro fare hike, calling it a major blow to ordinary commuters. With DTC buses in poor condition and often overcrowded or breaking down, Delhi residents have increasingly relied on metro services for their daily travel.
Yadav noted that even the earlier minimum fare of Rs 10 was challenging for daily wage earners. The recent increase of Rs 1 to 4 per journey now makes daily metro travel cost between Rs 100 and 128, putting a severe strain on low-income commuters.
He demanded that the ‘Triple Engine’ BJP Government immediately reverse the fare hike, calling the decision anti-people and anti-poor. Yadav also questioned the justification given by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, saying public transport should remain affordable and not be used as a profit-making tool. Highlighting the worsening state of DTC buses, Yadav added that commuters may be forced to abandon metro travel due to high costs, leaving them with few viable options. He accused the government of adding to the financial burden on citizens, with rising fuel prices and now expensive metro fares, further exposing policies that neglect the common people.
