NEW DELHI, August 25, 2025 – Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Shri Devender Yadav has written to Lt. Governor Shri Vinay Kumar Saxena, demanding the withdrawal of the government notification dated August 13, 2025, which allows police personnel and officers to give their court depositions via video conferencing (VC) from police stations.
Shri Yadav emphasized that the move undermines fair trial procedures, as thousands of Delhi’s district court lawyers have been on strike for the past four days, opposing VC depositions. According to him, cross-examinations lose their purpose if police officers are not physically present in court, putting justice at risk.
He criticized the Delhi BJP government for ignoring lawyers’ demands and described its approach as autocratic and insensitive. Shri Yadav warned that the absence of police officers in court denies accused individuals the right to a proper defense and violates fundamental rights.
Shri Yadav added that while VC hearings were introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure safety, there is no current justification for police personnel to avoid appearing in person. Courts are meant to deliver impartial justice, but relying solely on VC depositions compromises transparency and fairness, he said.
