The Dr. Mangalam Swaminathan Foundation proudly announces the 8th edition of the National Excellence Awards, recognizing individuals and institutions who have made extraordinary contributions to India’s public life, social progress, and cultural legacy.
This year, eight distinguished achievers have been selected from over 1,000 nominations received nationwide across diverse fields. Each recipient will be honoured with a cash prize of ₹1 lakh, along with a Memento and Citation, at a grand ceremony on November 29, 2025, at the NDMC Convention Centre, Sansad Marg, New Delhi.
🏆 Honourees of the Dr. Mangalam Swaminathan National Excellence Awards 2025
- Excellence in Journalism:
Ms. Liz Mathew, Deputy Editor, The Indian Express, is honoured for her insightful political reportage, impactful interviews, and commitment to fair, fact-based journalism that continues to inspire the next generation of reporters. - Excellence in Science Reporting:
Ms. Uzmi Athar, Chief Correspondent, Press Trust of India (PTI), is recognised for her outstanding coverage on environment, climate change, health, and technology — combining scientific depth with human stories. - Excellence in Art & Culture:
Ms. Sagari Chhabra, acclaimed author and filmmaker, receives the award for her powerful storytelling on India’s freedom struggle, bringing to light the sacrifices of unsung heroes and heroines. - Excellence in Exposing Medical Malpractices:
Mr. V. S. Rajesh, Chief News Editor, Kerala Kaumudi, is honoured for his groundbreaking investigation into hospital–stent supplier collusion that led to government intervention and nationwide price regulation. - Social Service – Shri Dattopant Thengadi Seva Samman (2025):
Acharya Sri K. R. Manoj, Founder–Director, Aarsha Vidya Samajam, is recognised for his mission to promote Yoga Vidya, preserve Sanatan Dharma, and guide youth towards cultural and moral revival. - Social Service – Shri Dattopant Thengadi Seva Samman (2025):
Dr. Ashish Gautam, President, Divya Prem Sewa Mission Niyas, Haridwar, is honoured for his lifelong dedication to rehabilitating leprosy-affected individuals and empowering their families through education and healthcare. - Pravasi Bharatiya Award for Contribution to National Life:
Shri Pambavasan Nair, Chairman & MD, Amad Group of Companies (Bahrain & Saudi Arabia), is celebrated for his philanthropic initiatives — providing homes, education, and financial support to underprivileged families. - Special Award for Science Reporting:
Mr. Biju Pankaj, Associate Editor, Mathrubhumi News, receives recognition for his compelling environmental documentaries highlighting conservation issues in the Western Ghats and beyond.
🌿 Continuing the Legacy of Compassion and Service
Marking its 8th successful year, the Foundation also runs the ‘Sarvamangalam’ project, which provides a monthly pension of ₹2,000 to 51 families in Kerala affected by political violence — an initiative inaugurated in 2022 by Shri Arif Mohammad Khan, Hon’ble Governor of Kerala.
