EDUCATIONAL VISIT FOR VETERINARY STUDENTS ORGANIZED BY SKUAST-
JAMMU
An educational visit was organized by Division of Veterinary Parasitology, Faculty of Veterinary
Sciences and Animal Husbandry, SKUAST-J, at slaughter house located at Dogra hall falling
under jurisdiction Jammu Municipal Corporation. The visit was conducted as part of the
academic course curriculum of Bachelor of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry degree
program. During the visit 80 students of 3rd professional year gained in hand experience of
ante-mortem/post mortem examination as well as learnt the methods for collection of parasites
and parasitic lesions affected specimens from animals. The educational trip was held under the
patronage of Professor B.N. Tripathi, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-Jammu and guidance
of Prof. M.S. Bhadwal, Assoc. Dean Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry.
Dr. Jaswant Singh, Municipal Veterinary officer and Incharge Slaughter house, in his expert talk
elaborated detailed procedures and protocols adopted for antemortem and postmortem
examination of animals. He offered a deeper understanding of the operations involved in
scientific disposal of various byproducts and wastes of animal origin generated in the Slaughter
house. The visit was coordinated by Prof. Anish Yadav, Head, Division of Veterinary
Parasitology, who in his talk emphasized the impact of parasite-borne zoonotic diseases in
Indian context and stressed upon the need to create greater awareness among people in the
era of one health. Dr. Sanku Borkataki, Prof. and Dr. Rajesh Godara, Assoc. Prof., Veterinary
Parasitology performed practical demonstration and explained the methods for collection and
preservation of parasites and parasitic lesions affected specimens. The visit was also attended
by PG scholars and technical staff of the Division of Veterinary Parasitology. The staff of
slaughter house assisted in successful conduct of the practical demonstrations.
