HP power board employees denounce decision to outsource over 33KVA sub stations

Hamirpur(HP), Sep 17 : The HPSEB employees union has strongly condemned the decision of the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL) to outsource the operation and maintenance of 33 KV substations stating that this decision is not proving to be good for the Board Employees and their families.

HL Verma, the state Secretary of the Union said on Friday that the old practice to hand over such stations to the private parties through outsourcing had proved ineffective and the new decision is neither in the interests of the employees nor in the interest of the state.

While strongly opposing the HPSEBL management decisions, the employees union demanded reconsideration of the issue and has also called for agitation if the decision is not withdrawn.

Verma alleged that due to poor maintenance of machinery by private contractors, the Board would have to restore these substations in dilapidated condition. He said that the contractors employed unskilled workers, who were not able to maintain these substations for long and that were harmful for all.
He said that the rates of accidents during outsourcing were also high and this decision should be withdrawn at an earliest.
