Margao, Jun 18 : All India Congress Committee (AICC) Goa incharge Dinesh Gundu Rao on Friday said that Congress party after forming government in 2022 will scrap all the projects which will cause destruction to the environment and identity of Goa.
Speaking after paying floral tributes at the Martyrs Memorial and the Statue of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia on the occasion of Goa Revolution Day, he said,’It is duty of all of us to fulfil the dreams of our freedom fighters to preserve the unique Identity of Goa. Dr Ram Manohar Lohia, Dr Juliao Menezes and all the known and unknown freedom fighters sacrificed their lives for Liberation of Goa.’
Mr Rao felicitated freedom fighters Vaman Prabhugaonkar and Gopal Chitari.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar, Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat, Curtorim MLA Alex Reginaldo Laurance, former Minister Alex Sequiera, GPCC Vice President M K Shaikh and Altinho Gomes, Mahila Congress President Beena Naik, South Goa District President Joe Dias, Margao Block President Gopal Naik, Priol Block President Hemant Naik and others were present during the ceremony.
Former Councillor Avinash Shirodkar welcomed the dignitaries and also proposed Vote of thanks.
Mr Rao said,’On this historic day of the Goa Freedom Struggle, we are taking a pledge today to be the Voice of the People of Goa. We are committed to preserve and protect the rich heritage of this unique State of India. The Congress Party has always listened to the voice and aspirations of the Goans. We scrapped SEZ’s, Regional Plan bowing before people’s demand. Our government will always respect the sentiments and emotions of the people,’ Mr Rao said.
