Agrometeorology Section under the aegis of Honble Vice Chancellor Prof. Nazir Ah. Ganai and guidance of Prof. R.K.Samnotra, Director Research, SKUAST-Jammu organized one day “Farmer awareness cum input distribution programme at SKUAST-J, Chatha, Jammu on 15th March, 2023. In this programme more than 35 farmers (male and female) participated. The main objective of this programme to improve the socio-economic status of the economically weaker section specially SC & ST category of SKUAST-J, Chatha.
The programme was preceded by Dr. Mahender Singh, Chief Scientist and Incharge AICRPAM, who welcomed the gathering and discussed in detail about importance of organizing this awareness programme. He further gave detailed information on climate change in region and mitigation in day to day field management operations.
Prof. Nazir Ah. Ganai, Honble Vice Chancellor was the Chief Guest of the occasion and highlighted the various activities undertaken by the university for the welfare of the farmers for boosting their income from agriculture enterprises and also encouraged the farmers to take more and more benefit from such type of programmes. He stressed that agriculture based start ups can reach out to the farmers which help to give higher status to these sections so that greater amount of income devoted to their childrens education, health and nutrition. He also emphasized on regular production of different agriculture standardized products like processed fruits and vegetables, preparation and marketing of dairy products, mushroom cultivation, beekeeping etc for income generating economic opportunities. He encouraged the farmers to work in a collective approach to take the maximum output from field by reducing the input used in field. He stressed the farmer community to come forward regarding their agricultural related problems and to adopt the new climate resilient technologies developed by SKUAST-J, Chatha, Jammu to get higher agriculture production and saving natural resources. He distributed seed bin (17 nos) and fruit plants (20 nos)to the farmers of these communities.
Prof. R.K.Samnotra, Director Research, SKUAST-Jammu highlighted the various activities undertaken by the university for the welfare of the farmers for boosting their income from agriculture enterprises and also encouraged the for participation in such type of programme.
Prof. B. C. Sharma, Dean, FoA, & Head, Division of Agronomy, SKUAST-J, Prof. Anil Sharma, Nodal Officer,ICAR Cell and other staff members of Agrometeorology also present at this occasion. Dr. Veena Sharma, Technical officer, AMFU-Chatha presented the vote of thanks.
