Arunachal logs 404 new cases

Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday recorded 404 fresh COVID-19 cases – the highest single-day spike in infection in the third wave – that took the northeastern state’s tally of confirmed cases past the 57,000-mark, a senior health official said.

On the contrary, 84 COVID patients have recuperated from the disease, thereby taking the total number of recoveries to 55,279, he said, adding that the state’s active caseload now stands at 1476, while the overall case tally mounted to 57,037.

Of the new infections, Itanagar Capital Complex accounted for the highest number of cases at 165, followed by Changlang at 42, West Kameng (30), Lohit and Namsai (23 each), Lower Dibang Valley (19), East Siang and Lower Subansiri (13 each), East Kameng (12), Tawang (11) and Papum Pare (10).

227 of the total cases were found to be asymptomatic and 177 symptomatic, the official said, adding that the day’s positivity rate logged at 21.38 per cent, which stood at 20 per cent on Monday. The state has tested 1889 samples for COVID-19 that took its cumulative count to 12,18,216.

Arunachal Pradesh has so far administered 15,39,873 COVID-19 vaccine doses to its eligible citizens. At least 8,71,314 beneficiaries, including 40,961 people of 15-18 years age group, have been inoculated with the first dose and 6,68,559 have received both doses of the vaccine. 8052 beneficiaries have so far taken precaution doses, state immunization officer Dr D Padung said.
