In continuation to celebration of Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav, NSS wing and Health centre of SKUAST-Jammu, under the able guidance of the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu, Prof J.P. Sharma organised an awareness lecture on ‘Breast and cervical cancer causes and management’ for NSS students of Faculty of Agriculture. Prof. J P Sharma Vice Chancellor called upon the students to be simple on choosing their diet and keep them fit and have a positive approach toward their goal. The invited guests were welcomed by offering bouquet of flower and presenting mementoes. Before the start of lecture the family of squadron leader Ravinder Kr Khanna who made supreme sacrifice during early days of militancy in Kashmir was honoured by presenting a memento and shawl to Mrs. Shalini Khanna wife of Squadron leader.
On the outset Prof. Rajesh Katoch, Dean Students Welfare welcomed the guest and faculty and threw light on the burning issue of breast cancer and cervical cancer in particular young ladies. Mrs Shalini Khanna spoke on the occasion and called upon the students to be disciplined and manage their diets and time to get success in the life. Dr. Harbaksh Singh CMO Jammu while speaking on the occasion stressed upon the need of change of life style and also called upon the students to keep health at priority. Dr Paras Khanna a Surgical Oncologist delivered the lecture on the topic ‘Breast and Cervical cancer cause and management’. He while speaking threw lights on various social factors leads to worsening of increase of cancer patients in the society and one major cause is the ignorance and lack of awareness about such diseases. One most important myth regarding any disease in locality is that people thought that it is ‘divine curse’ which aggravated the simple reasons to a deadly one. Dr Sumati Sharma former Additional Director DRDO called upon the students to remain vigilant regarding their health and thanks organisers for such a wonderful programme. In his vote of thanks Dr. Subhash c Kashyap NSS coordinator thanks authorities for organising such type of programmes and he called upon the students to disseminate the knowledge gained from the talk among society and make awareness about cancer and other such diseases.
NSS volunteers can act as ambassador for health awareness. Students took active participation by asking questions and queries regarding health issues. Medical Officer Dr Anil Gupta coordinated the programme. Those present in the programme includes Dr Minu Katoch Scientist IIIM, Dr. Sushmita Dadich, Dr R Punia, Dr Balbir Dhotra and Mr Neeraj Gupta NSS programme officers. Many faculty members and students attended the programme. The programme ended with vote of thanks by Dr Subhash C Kashyap NSS Coordinator.
