Agartala, Oct 5 (UNI) Accusing opposition CPI (M) of hiding weapons in its offices in different parts of the state, the ruling BJP in Tripura today demanded police raids to maintain peace.

BJP’s demand came a day after CPI(M) complained of violence by the ruling party cadres to the Director-General of Police (DGP).

BJP Spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharjee alleged that CPI(M) delegation gave misleading information and distorted facts to DGP to malign the government and instigate their cadres to attack BJP supporters ahead of urban local bodies’ election and ADC poll.

Bhattacharjee claimed not a single political murder has been reported since BJP-IPFT government assumed power, which had become a norm after every election during the 25 years of CPI(M) rule.

CPI(M) has been looking for an exit from the political fight in the elections and raising all wild allegations, he stated.

“During the demolition of illegal construction of properties, owned by different individuals and political parties, on government land, soon after BJP-IPFT combine came to power, a large number of weapons were found in CPI (M) party offices across the state. We still believe CPI (M) offices are having weapons, which they stored for some specific purposes. We demand police to conduct a search in the offices of CPI (M),” Bhattacharjee said.

He further mentioned that police need to verify the allegations of CPI (M) regarding violence and attacks on them and to ensure whether BJP had any links with those incidents and added, “Some incidents of unnatural death have been reported in various police stations but they were not political murders or had BJP involvement.”

Claiming improvement of law and order situation under BJP rule, he said murder, crime on women, theft and other general crimes have significantly reduced in the past two years compared to the left regime.

Besides, the rate of judicial trial and conviction in Tripura have also improved substantially in BJP’s rule, he added.

Meanwhile, CPI (M) state secretary Goutam Das rubbished the BJP’s claim and alleged that in the past two and half years of BJP-IPFT rule, as many as 24 journalists of Tripura have been attacked by the ruling party cadres allegedly for writing against the party for the involvement of their leaders in corruption and crimes.

Apart from that, as many as 14 CPI (M) workers have been killed, at least 2,420 persons, including 236 women, were assaulted while 2,656 persons were attacked so far.

As many as 346 party offices were vandalised, while 138 offices were set ablaze, 69 offices were captured and another 60 were put under lock, he alleged, adding that around 1,748 houses of party workers were destroyed, 1,123 houses were attacked and 190 houses were torched.
