JAMMU: The focus laid on J&K by PM Narendra Modi led BJP Government and the move of abrogating Article 370 have led J&K to become first Union Territory/ State in the country which can boast of having District Good Governance Index (DGGI) to mark its achievements in the last couple of years.
This was stated by senior BJP leader and former deputy chief minister Kavinder Gupta in a statement issued to media here on Saturday. He said that Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah has released the DGGI for 20 districts of Jammu and Kashmir in a function organized jointly by Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances (DARPG), Government of India and Jammu & Kashmir Institute of Management, Public Administration & Rural Development in association with the Centre for Good Governance, Hyderabad.
The BJP stalwart leader said that J&K is the maiden UT which has acquired a District Level Good Governance Index to assess performance of all 20 districts of the UT in different parameters, give them ranks accordingly which are dynamic and will keep on changing regularly as the Department will continue to monitor performance of all 20 districts on daily, weekly and monthly basis. He said that it is the farsightedness of the BJP government that such revolutionary steps are being taken for ensuring good governance in the region otherwise under the rule of successive governments the erstwhile state used to reel under dearth of basic amenities thus not giving a chance to people to think beyond Roti, Kapda and Makaan. Kavinder said that DGGI in J&K represents a major administrative reform in benchmark for good governance at district level and a significant step to provide a robust framework for evidence based assessment of the performance of all the districts. He said that this is maiden exercise whereby districts will be rated as per their score computed on public feedback and reforms taken in making the governance process people-friendly, free from delinquency and above all development oriented thus making it amply clear that what Modi government has in offing for the people of J&K no other government can even think about it.
