Bommai terms recent murders in Karnataka ‘organised crime’

Bengaluru, July 29 : Blaming former chief minister and veteran Congress leader Siddaramaiah for the increased criminal activities of SDPI and PFI in the state, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday termed the killings of BJP youth leader Praveen Nettaru and others as organised crime.
“We have taken the killings of Praveen and others seriously. I am not seeing these incidents as mere murders. Understand this. They are organised crime. Wait for a few days and you will see the action,” he told reporters here.
On Mohammad Faisal’s murder, Bommai said, “We are treating all the murders equally. Every citizen’s life is important to us. We will take strict action against those who are involved in the killings,” he said.
Faisal was hacked to death by masked men in the outskirts of Mangaluru in Surathkal on Thursday.
To take stock of the situation in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, Bommai said he is convening a meeting with the director general of police and other senior police officers to maintain law and order in these areas.
There are many hardships the police are facing, and one among them was 55 roads that lead to Kerala from Dakshina Kannada district. “We will decide on how to manage these roads, because there are chances of many anti-social elements slipping into Karnataka to execute their nefarious goals,” he added.
Hitting out at Siddaramaiah for criticising his government for “deteriorating” law and order, Bommai said the present regime has taken prompt action against those involved in the recent killings. “When Siddaramaiah was there (as CM), 32 murders had taken place. What was he doing? We have taken prompt action and arrested the assailants in Praveen’s and earlier cases. We have not been found lacking,” he said.
“If someone sees everything through the lens of politics, it appears to be the same. There is no importance attached to Siddaramaiah’s statement. We know how to handle the situation,” he added.
Bommai also blamed Congress, especially Siddaramaiah for the increase in criminal activities of SDPI and PFI in Karnataka. “It was Siddaramaiah who had withdrawn more than 200 cases against PFI and SDPI workers when he was the chief minister,” he said.
“The SDPI and PFI activists had attacked their own Congress MLA Tanveer Sait. Despite this, Siddaramaiah gave relief to them, and now these people are going about freely and committing grave crime,”
