CBI arrests two Central GST officials in bribery case

New Delhi, April 29 : The Central Bureau of Investigation arrested two officials, including a Superintendent and an Inspector of Central GST posted in Maharashtra’s Jaysingpur in an alleged bribery case, CBI said here on Friday. On April 28, a case was registered against Superintendent Mahesh Nesarikar and Inspector Amit Kumar Mishra on a complaint, said a CBI spokesperson. The Superintendent had allegedly demanded undue advantage of Rs 75,000 from the complainant through his Tax Consultant to settle the matter regarding his service tax liability for 2017-18 to 2020-21, CBI said. Both the accused negotiated the alleged bribe amount with the complainant and his Tax Consultant and fixed the same as Rs 50,000. CBI laid the trap and caught the Inspector, while he was accepting the alleged bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant. Later, the Superintendent was also caught. Searches were conducted at the premises of both the accused at Jaysingpur and Kolhapur, which led to recovery of incriminating documents. Both the accused were produced in the Court in Jaysingpur.
