CBI files charge sheet against TMC leader Vinay Mishra in cattle smuggling case

Asansol, Feb 24 (UNI) The CBI on Wednesday filed a charge sheet against TMC leader Vinay Mishra in the special CBI court here in a cattle smuggling and its money trail.

Three CBI officials investigating the scam had appeared in the court and filled the charge sheet against TMC leader Vinay Mishra, who has been evading arrest and may have fled the country, sources said.

In November, the agency had arrested Border Security Force Commandant Satish Kumar for his alleged role in the case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had already conducted searches in two premises linked to Trinamool Youth Congress general secretary Vinay Mishra in connection with the case of alleged smuggling of cattle to Bangladesh.

In November, the agency arrested Border Security Force (BSF) Commandant Satish Kumar for his alleged role in the case.

He was booked along with three traders named Enamul Haque, Anarul Sheikh and Mohammed Golam Mustafa. Haque was earlier arrested by the CBI.

After registering the case in September, the CBI searched the premises of the accused persons at 13 locations in Kolkata and Murshidabad in West Bengal, Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, Amritsar in Punjab and Raipur in Chhattisgarh.

It was alleged that during the Commandant’s tenure, more than 20,000 cows were seized by the BSF,

but the persons involved in the smuggling were not arrested.

Their transport vehicles were also not impounded.

The FIR alleged a big nexus among BSF personnel, Customs officials and unscrupulous traders behind the smuggling of cattle to Bangladesh via West Bengal.

The traders would buy back the seized cattle at cheap rates by paying bribes, causing huge losses to the exchequer.

The CBI has filed a charge sheet in the alleged Cattle Smuggling Case in the Asansol court. Seven people have been named as accused including the arrested BSF officer.

On January 27, CBI had issued an arrest warrant against Vinay Mishra.

Several summons and lookout notices were sent against Mishra in a probe on an ongoing multi-crore cross-border cattle smuggling case.

Mishra has not made himself available for the investigation to date.

Now the CBI is considering to issue a Red Corner Notice against Vinay Mishra.
