CBI teams swing into action to probe Bengal post-assembly elections result violence cases

The CBI swung into action after its four teams
arrived in the city to probe the post assembly election result
violence across West Bengal following a Calcutta High court order to this effect.
Hours after reaching on Monday CBI’s five officials went to the home of slain Abhijit Sarkar at Kakurganchi under Beliaghata police station and took the victim’s elder brother Biswajit Sarkar at their office for questioning, sources said on Tuesday.
It was alleged that Abhijit Sarkar, who was an active member of BJP’s labour wing, was bludgeoned to death on May 2, the day the results of the assembly seats were declared.
Sources said the CBI has recorded the statement of Biswajit Sarkar, who may be called for further investigation into the death of Abhijit Sarkar.
The CBI has set up four Special Investigation Units (SIUs) with some 24/25 officials to probe West Bengal’s post-election-result violence cases.
Each unit is headed by a joint director level officer, who will be aided by SPs, GSPs, Inspectors, and Sub-inspectors.
The CBI officials, who arrived in this city, have set up a camp office at the premises of Port Trust.
The four units are divided into North Zone, South Zone, West Zone and Kolkata.
