Central team reviews flood situation in Bihar

Patna, Sept 06 : A six member Central team made an aerial survey of the flood affected areas of Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga and Samastipur districts and reviewed the flood situation, here on Monday.
After the aerial survey the team discussed the situation with the higher authorities of Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur and Samastipur and also took stock of the situation of relief measures being taken in the flood affected areas.
The district magistrate of Darbhanga Thiagarajan S M apprised the team about the the geographical situation of Darbhanga and informed that various blocks were inundated due to the flood caused by river Bagmati and Kamla Balan.
He said that 7.64 lakh people in 130 panchayats were affected by the floods for whom relief camps and community kitchens were functioning. The standing crops in about 26 thousand 940 acre were damaged by the flood water.
District Magistrate of Muzaffarpur Pranav Kumar apprising about the situation informed the team that various areas of the district were inundated due to flood water caused from the river Gandak and Budhi Gandak. He said that more than 4 lakh people of 822 wards were affected. He said that 95 people lost their life in various incidents in the floods. He said that standing crops covering an area of 47.59 acres was damaged in the flood.
Samastipur District Magistrate Shashank Shubhankar said that the district witnessed flood in three phases due to flood water in river Bagmati, Budhi Gandak, Kaler, Ganga, Noon and Baya. He said that the flood water affected 4 lakh 6 thousand 567 people in the district.
