Cold, foggy morning in Delhi with drizzle; air quality ‘severe’

New Delhi, Jan 2 (UNI) The National Capital residents woke up to a cold fogy overcast Saturday morning with light rain at some parts of the city in the early hours.

Traces of rainfall were recorded at several places making it colder despite the minimum temperature settling at 7 degrees C, which is normal for the season.

Later, the temperature further rose to 11 degrees C at around 1000 hrs. According to the weatherman, the maximum temperature is likely to hover around 18 degrees today.

Visibility took a hit due to the dense fog in the morning hours slowing down movement of traffic especially on the highways.

On Friday , the minimum temperature was six notches below the season’s average at 1.1 degrees C.

According to the Meteorological department , there is a possibility of light rain and drizzle , while sky will remain generally

cloudy during the day.

Relative humidity at around 0830 hours pegged at 100 per cent, while the air quality in the city reeled under severe category with

the average Air Quality Index measuring 453 at 0900 hours, according to the Central Pollution Control Board.

For Sunday, the weatherman has forecast a generally cloudy sky with Light Rain or Drizzle with minimum and maximum temperatures

to hover around 8 and 20 degrees C respectively.

The impact of western disturbance is likely to stay over northern region , and , further onwards January 7 the temperature is likely to dip once again with cold wave conditions likely.

On Friday, maximum temperature settled at 19.2 degrees C , which was normal for the season.
